First alarm forecast: record heat possible today

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – After a warm end to the week, we’re banking on the same trend to start the weekend.

Temperatures will rise to the low to mid 80s under mostly sunny skies. The forecast high in Atlanta is 85°, which would match the record set in 2010 and 1940.

Most of the area remains dry today, but a few showers are possible in the mountains this evening before a cold front pushes through tonight into tomorrow.

The cold front will bring a few scattered showers on Sunday and keep afternoon temperatures in the low 70s. You will also notice that the breeze increases throughout the day.

The week ahead looks warm and mostly dry, with temperatures in the lower to mid 70s on Monday and Tuesday. We’re approaching the 80 degree mark again just in time for Halloween on Thursday.
