AEW’s Deonna Purrazzo remembers the NXT match against WWE Champion Nia Jax

Deonna Purrazzo’s stint in the WWE is largely forgotten by newer wrestling fans, but while she signed a contract with “WWE NXT” in 2018, Purrazzo made her official debut for the WWE back in 2015 against the then very new Nia Jax wrestled in one of theirs first televised fights ever. During a recent edition of the “Insight” podcast, Purrazzo looked back on her match with Jax and how nerve-wracking it was for both of them to wrestle on such a big platform.

“I love Nia and she has always been so generous to her opponents. So I remember it was, I think, her second NXT match after her debut, it was me, and I was intimidated because I was like, ‘Oh God.’ ‘,” Purrazzo said. “She’s new, I’m new, this could be really bad. Sarah Amato helped with production, Triple H was in the ring helping with production. She was just such a sponge for everything. She gave me a few things, a lot more than I needed at the time.

Not only did Jax and Purrazzo get the chance to face each other again in “NXT” less than six months later, but they also got a match on “WWE Raw” on the show’s first episode after WrestleMania 36. This match would be postponed due to the COVID-19 Not only would the pandemic take place without fans, but it would also be Purrazzo’s last WWE match before her release. Still, Purrazzo has fond memories of working with Jax. “I think she is such an amazing person and it was really exciting for me to spend these moments with her. I like seeing that development and I was really grateful to be a part of it.”
