Man dies in south Kansas City restaurant shooting: police

A man is dead after a shooting at a Little Caesars pizza restaurant in south Kansas City on Friday evening.

Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to the restaurant at 8700 Blue Ridge Blvd. sent. around 8 p.m., said Capt. Jake Becchina, a KCPD spokesman. They discovered a man with gunshot wounds inside the restaurant who was unresponsive, Becchina said.

Rescue workers entered the store and pronounced the man dead at the scene of the accident, Becchina said.

Police arrested another man at the scene as a suspect. The suspected shooter and the victim appeared to have known each other and were believed to have been involved in an argument shortly before the shooting, Becchina said.

Several other Little Caesars customers and employees witnessed the shooting, Becchina said.

According to The Star, Friday’s shooting was the 130th homicide reported in Kansas City in 2024 and the fifth homicide in the city this week. At this time last year, 156 homicides had been reported in the city.
