The Yellow Lake Fire is 45% contained and there will be more snow

HANNA, Duchesne County – The Yellow Lake Fire has reached 45% containment, and the southern edge that once threatened the town of Hanna is now fully contained.

A statement from the U.S. Forest Service on Friday said that despite winds of 45 miles per hour on Thursday, the fire did not spread thanks to fire department control lines around the fire.

More good news: Authorities expect more snow on Monday.

“The two primary efforts of the site work continue to be extinguishing hot areas and repairing damage caused by the fires and fire suppression efforts,” the Forest Service said.

Despite firefighters’ progress, the fire’s northern edge continued to resist containment efforts, officials said.

“This jagged line from the Soapstone area around Iron Mine Mountain to the North Fork of the Duchesne has defied containment primarily because of the remote, rugged terrain,” the Forest Service said.
