UFC 308 got off to a swinging start as the opening match on the preliminary card between Rinat Fakhretdinov and Carlos Leal sparked controversy over how the judges scored the fight.

Fakhretdinov was awarded the victory by unanimous decision, with one of the judges scoring all three rounds for the Russian fighter.

Fans and analysts agreed that this rating was a joke and that Leal had clearly won the fight.

Yes @danawhite I have to do something about the assessment in the @ufc. It’s legitimately killing the sport. Carlos Leal was absolutely robbed.

Adam Martin @MMAdamMartin

Thanks @felderpaul for keeping it real and showing the judges a new face.
This is a complete joke. The UFC needs to pay Carlos Leal his win bonus, consider this a win for his record, and get rid of the 30-27 Rinat judges. #UFC308

According to official UFC statistics, Leal landed four more significant strikes in the first two rounds, and Fakhretdinov doubled the total number of strikes in the opening round (56 to 28). The only advantage for Fakhretdinov in the first round was a takedown, but Leal was never in danger and got right back up.
