A suspect has been arrested following a deadly shooting at a high school football game, police said

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. (WAFB) – A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting at a high school football game in St. Martin Parish, police said.

According to the St. Martinville Police Department, the shooting occurred Friday evening, Oct. 25, shortly before St. Martinville Sr. High’s homecoming game, leaving one person dead. The shooting reportedly started in the tailgate area.

The suspect, Zackyric Gardner, 22, was located in Texas after a warrant was sent to authorities along the I-10 corridor, authorities said. They added that police officers stopped a vehicle and discovered that Gardner was a passenger in the vehicle.

Police said Gardner will be returned to St. Martin Parish and posted $10 million bail. The arrest warrant against the suspect is for second-degree murder.

The game was canceled in the first quarter.

The name of the shooting victim has not been released.
