Middleweights Abus Magomedov and Brunno Ferreira faced off on the UFC 308 preliminary card, with both fighters undefeated heading into 2024.

Ferreira, a newcomer to Season 6 of Dana White’s Contender Series, entered this fight with back-to-back wins so far this year over Phil Hawes and Dustin Stoltzfus, with both victories earning him post-fight bonuses. Magomedov, a PFL veteran who came to the UFC in 2022 after a win in KSW, had fought once in 2024, earning a victory over Warlley Alves in May.

Ferreira is known as an action fighter with a fan-friendly style who has only gotten out of the first round once in his 13-fight career. As for the German, he is an explosive fighter who is dangerous early but still vulnerable as the fight progresses.

Round 1 begins and slight betting favorite Magomedov comes out early with his usual pressure. Ferreira, content to move around and constantly change stances, seems content to simply wait for a clear opening before throwing. Magomedov uses a punch-heavy approach, using his length to his advantage and forcing the Brazilian to swing into the air. After 1 it’s 10-9 Magomedov based on volume.

Ferreira starts the second round with more urgency, pushing his opponent back. Magomedov responds by moving forward, but a big shot from Ferreira rocks him. Ferreira follows with a kick, forcing Magomedov to shoot for the takedown. The Brazilian instinctively reaches for a guillotine, but he loses it not long after. Magomedov lands in top position and finds his way to Ferreira’s back, but gets too high and with both fighters so sweaty, he slips. Once back on his feet, Magomedov appears to be the most tired of the two and as if he hasn’t fully recovered from the big left hands he ate earlier. Ferreira feels it and lands several good punches. He then turns for a spinning back elbow, but in doing so he exposes his back so Magomedov can take the fight back to the ground and keep it there until the end of the round. Ferreira wins the round 10:9 after Magomedov was injured several times.

Both fighters start the third round with big swings and it’s Ferreira who hurts Magomedov again, but instead of taking his time, he opts for a spinning elbow that allows Magomedov to duck under and shoot for the takedown. Ferreira finds his way to his feet and right after taking a long look at the clock, Magomedov hits a great double leg that knocks Ferreira to the floor. With both fighters exhausted, it is the German who completes an arm triangle submission, becoming the first fighter in his professional career to submit Brunno Ferreira.

Official result: Abus Magomedov defeated. Brunno Ferreira by submission (arm triangle choke), round 3, 3:14
