3 College Station sixth graders accidentally eat THC-containing candy at school

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Three ILTexas students ate candy Thursday that they believed was regular Halloween candy, but the school said it was laced with THC. College Station police are investigating and believe it was an accident.

In a school press release, ILTexas confirmed that the three students were all sixth graders.

“One of the students noticed that the candy tasted unusual and spat it out. However, the other two took the sweets,” the message to parents said. A child went to the nurse.

The nurse reportedly recognized it contained THC and notified school officials, emergency services and authorities.

Through the College Station Police Department (CSPD) investigation, officers concluded it was an accident as the children consumed the candy. The student who brought it and his family didn’t know that it wasn’t just candy.

“The candy in this incident was unopened and looked very similar to a bag of Sour Patch Kids, and it was only upon closer inspection that we discovered it contained THC,” ILTexas wrote.

No criminal charges will be filed.

However, the school system is using this as an opportunity to encourage parents to check their children’s candy on Halloween.

In another update, the school released the following statement:

“After further investigation into the situation, we wanted to clarify that an ILTexas parent was ferrying non-ILTexas students from a neighboring high school back and forth to his Trunk Or Treat event last night. The parents did not know the item was left in the car. The ILTexas student picked up the candy from the backseat on the way to school, thinking it was Watermelon Sours. After tasting the candy, the student immediately told staff that something was wrong. Please be sure to talk to your Eagle about eating candy, even if it comes from a friend.”
