Mets' Edwin Diaz comes up with “efficient” six-out savings coupling

Mets' Edwin Diaz comes up with “efficient” six-out savings coupling

Kansas City, Mo-Carlos Mendoza's original plan, did not include that he used his all-star closer for a two-in-end rescue area on Saturday, but the situation told the METS manager that it should adapt.

After the METs had won a repeat challenge in the eighth inn and Bobby Witt Jr. was excluded because of his experiment to steal the second basis, Edwin Díaz Vinny Pasquantino ruled out to end the inn.

Mendoza then decided to ask Díaz about the ninth stay.

“He was efficient with the caught theft and we have the all-star break here,” said Mendoza, after the Mets defeated the Royals 3-1. “I said,” If there is a time of the year when we can do several times, the time is today. “After the inning, I checked him and there was no hesitation.”

Díaz worked a perfect ninth place in 20 chances to record his 19th rescue. Mendoza had called him for eighth place to face the tip of the Royals.

“I thought that was the game right there and I would find out for the ninth,” said Mendoza.

The manager had already used Reed Garrett and Chris Devenski. Garrett went with the binding run on the third base with the sixth inning with no one before Devenski had a goalless seventh place.

Díaz, with his two goalless innings, saw his era fell to 1.66. In the last 2 ½ months he has been on the Elite level after a shaky start to his season.

“I didn't really start, but I found a way to better check and throw the ball on,” said Díaz. “I'm very happy about my first half.”

Díaz, who was presenting the Mets for the second time in the all-star game-was also a selection in 2022, said that his command had improved with improvements in his mechanics.

“I worked hard with the pitching trainers and when I always do my routine, I will be good,” said Díaz. “I do that every day with them. They keep urging me to get better and better, and I think I have to give them appreciation.”
