Charlotte FC transferred striker Patrick Agyemang against the Derby County to the English championship team for a club record fee and maintained a sales share, the club said on Tuesday.

The 24-year-old US international has a meteoric increase with the selection No. 12 (first round) in the Superdraft 2023 mls to a European transfer in two and a half years. It is said to end by $ 8 million plus add-ons.

Agyemang has scored 22 goals in 72 all-competition appearances for Charlotte and another five out of 12 USMNT caps. He was appointed 2025 MLS All-Star.

“Patrick's promotion in the past 18 months brought him to the radar of many clubs all over Europe, and ultimately the offer from Derby County convinced the club and the player to achieve an agreement,” said General Manager Zoran Krneta.

“In order to complete a deal, this must be primarily in the best interest of the club, but also the player, and in this case he reaches both. He is the first player in the history of our club, which comes via our player path and is sold in a multi-million dollar transfer.”

With Agyemang's exit, Charlotte was able to sign a designated player this summer to strengthen her No. 9 options. The Israeli International Idan -Tclomati, a U22 initiative, is her first -class striker.

Agyemang was a heart of Charlotte's attack alongside midfielder Pep Biel and DP Winger's Wilfied Zaha and Lieel Abada.

“Patrick is a top professional and has received this opportunity with his hard work and his commitment to the training spitch since his coming to Charlotte FC,” said Krneta.

“Everyone in the club wishes him the best of luck in Derby County, with the US men's national team while building the World Cup and the rest of his career.”

When Agyemang leaves, Charlotte is ninth in Eastern Conference and for a second Audi MLS Cup playoffs under head coach Dean Smith.

Derby County became 19th place in the second division of England last season, one point above the relegation zone.
