Amazon The company confirms some employees in its cloud computing department on Thursday.

“After a thorough review of our organization, our priorities and our concentration, we made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles in certain teams in AWS,” said Amazon spokesman Brad Glasser in a statement. “We did not make these decisions easily and we have committed to supporting the employees during their transition.”

The company rejected it to say which units were affected within Amazon Web Services or how many employees are released due to the job cuts.

Reuters first contacted the layoffs.

In May, Amazon reported a third quarterly decline in sales at AWS. In the first quarter, sales rose by 17% to 29.27 billion US dollars and slowed down from 18.9% in the stimulus.

Amazon said that the cuts were not mainly due to investments in artificial intelligence, but are due to continuous efforts to rationalize the workforce and the resumption of certain priorities. The company said it was still stopped in AWS.

The CEO of Amazon, Andy Jassy, has had a cost reduction for several years, which led to more than 27,000 employees have been released since 2022. The work cuts continued this year, although it is on a smaller scale than before previous years. The business of Amazon, communication and devices and services has been affected by layoffs in the past few months.

AWS has reduced hundreds of jobs in the technology, sales and marketing units in the areas of physical stores last year.

Last month, Jassy predicted that Amazon's company employee could continue to shrink due to the company that the generative AI uses.

“We will need fewer people who do some of today's jobs and more people who do other types of jobs,” Jassy told the employees. “It is difficult to know where it calls itself over time, but in the next few years we expect this to reduce our entire company employee.”
