Why a Chesapeake woman was granted a new murder process

Chesapeake, Va.-Tia Johnson, had a lot at stake when she was in court in January 2025 due to the first degree murder. She doesn't deny that, but she says she feared her and her children's life. She claims that her friend was becoming violent when they fought – an argument that she and your legal team wanted to support in court by showing records about 911 calls that she had made. But when her defender asked the prosecutors to hand over these records, he was informed that they did not exist. It was only when she was convicted of murder that the investigator of News 3, Margaret Kavanagh, discovered evidence that indicated that these 911 calls existed.

In Episode 1 of True Crime 757 we talk about how a series of news 3 investigations ultimately led to a new murder process against Tia Johnson.
