Teen Safe Highlights TIKTOK's role in increasing the visibility of amber alarm in NC :: Wral.com

When the authorities spent an amber alarm for Valeria Hernandez on July 9, many first learned the situation through a telephone war or television, but in a popular social media app.

State investigators said that the 13 -year -old Hernandez was certainly found as safe the next day after he had previously been seen at a bus stop in Raleigh. This is a result that the national center for missing and exploited children (NCMEC) is becoming increasingly common with the help of social media apps such as TikTok.

The organization has teamed up with the popular platform to send notifications about kidnapped and missing children to the “for them” pages of users in affected areas.

“The range with a partner like Tikok is incredible. If you put this information directly into your hands, where you can see it, you can get more information with a click on a button and you can call 9-1-1,” said Carly Tapp, program warning coordinator for the national center for missing and exploited children.

She says that the center has recorded 91% of the views of Amber Alert posts on its website since the first start of the Tikok partnership.

“We know that you not only look at it, but also the time to understand the information,” said Tapp.

According to the NCMEC, four amber warnings in North Carolina were activated in North Carolina.

“While it is now a social media, who knows what it will be in a year, five years, 10 years, and we have to continue to meet this communication method so that we can always reach those who change life,” said Tapp.

According to Tikok, the warnings in their app can reach 170 million Americans.
