The US Highway 6 was closed between parachute and Rulison due to vegetation fire

A rapidly moving vegetation fire has led to closing the US Highway 6 between Mile Markers 77 and 83, from parachut to Rulison. Evacuation commands were given by the fire for people within a radius of 2 miles.

From Thursday at around 6 p.m., according to the public information officer of the Sheriff of the Sheriff of the Sheriff of Garfield County, Walt Stowe, Walt Stowe burned around 300 acres. The MPs were first reported around 2:40 p.m. in what was originally reported as a 1 to 2 hectare fire in heavy brush directly in front of Interstate 70 near Mile Marker 79.

Numerous air resources help on site. While the cause of the fire remains unknown, the fire fighting efforts last. Colorado River Fire Rescue leads the efforts of fire suppression.

Stowe said that Interstate 70 will remain open at that time, although smoke is visible throughout the Grand Valley.

The drivers are recommended to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Emergency staff calls on the public to follow all evacuation orders and road closures.
