During a appearance in the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Natasha Lyonne revealed that she initially believed that she would pronounce another character in Schleurf, but ultimately ended as a mom Poot. She announced that she was first asked by e -mail whether she wanted to be part of Schleurf, and she said yes immediately. At first she believed that she would pronounce Smurfette to discover later that the role of Rihanna had been handed over.

In another interview, Lyonne spoke about her character and explained what the word poot means. She said: “I am pretty sure that she does a kind of underground surgery with a fast vehicle. And when Papa Smurf is kidnapped, Smurfette has a single solution: go to Mama Poot. Because she is mom for the job.”

She also mentioned what she was fun to express Mama Poot. “What is so much fun about Mama Poot is simple … It's pretty funny that she is really like some … I don't know … Itteration of the eccentricity, which is clearly alive in this excessively eccentric package that I put on the table,” she added.
