Proof that the public pressure (sometimes) pays off

In Torontos Waterfront there is a new park that is now at the mouth of the Don River. Haydn Watters spoke to a long -time lawyer who has been working to revitalize the harbor countries for 30 years.

For John Wilson, a civic attorney for the Don River, this park is the result of decades of work – and somehow even more than a dream comes true.

“I think what we have now is more spectacular than we have ever dreamed,” he told Metro Morning this week.

Wilson led a task force in the town hall that struggled to revive the river, a battle that began in the nineties and required constant public pressure to overcome the resistance of some local politicians who wanted to concentrate on other things.

What did Wilson and other activists keep going? “This is really important and can make our city a better place,” he said.

“I have spent my last 30 years with it. Now it is in the series of another to accept it and bring it forward.”
