Janesville, Wisconsin (WKOW)-a Beloit man was convicted on Friday.

The 28 -year -old Cody Markham was sentenced to 40 years in prison. A jury was Markham for incest in April and repeated sexual assault.

The prosecutors said that the girl who had been victims of Markham's abuse registered in June 2024 as an 8 years old. She said, Markham, her member of the biological family member, raped her several times in his house in Beloit.

The deputy district prosecutor Margaret Ginocchio argued for the maximum sentence and emphasized the bravery of the victim, which testified in court. “Compare your bravery with the accused's cowardice,” said Ginocchio. She continued to argue that Markham did not show any regrets and blamed his daughter and her mother.

Markham's lawyer urged the mandatory minimum penalty of 25 years and was based on the recommendation of Wisconsin's corrections. Judge Jeffrey Kuuglitsch, however, sentenced Markham to the maximum term in every count in order to be served at the same time due to the severity of his crimes.
