The short -term rental on the lake shore emphasizes problems between constant residents and tenants

A birthday party in a short -term rental object lake in Lake Houston was transformed into enemy confrontations between neighbors and tenants, whereby the growing tensions about holiday rentals in residential areas are emphasized.

Shantel Johnson, who rented the Lakefront property for the 15th birthday of her daughter, claims that constant residents had disturbed the celebration.

“I had saved about two months to make it something special,” said Johnson. “The woman came outside, screams and sprays us with the water hose.”

The conflict escalated to both parties who were mutually noted during the confrontations with accusations of harassment from both sides.

Mali Monshizadegan, rental property manager, recognized the situation and said: “Obviously the neighbor doesn't want us here. You have made many signs out there. 'Airbnb go home.'

Legal landscape develops

While Houston recently implemented a short -term rental registration regulation, its effectiveness is not tested.

In the meantime, a judge Dallas blocked stricter rent restrictions and illustrated the complex legal landscape in dealing with the holiday rentals.

Bil Stewart, whose homeland the rental property neighbors, commented frustrated about the situation.

“This is a residential area. We should not be exposed to a commercial, which is practically a hotel next door,” said Stewart.

The struggle of property rights increases

Short -term rental operators are increasingly resisting restrictions.

A new legal specialty has emerged, whereby the lawyers focus specifically on defending ownership rights for the operation of holiday apartments. These lawyers not only require individual homeowners, but also home owner associations and communities.

Real estate managers suggest that legal steps could be opened if the disputes are continued. “We don't want to go there,” said Monshizadegan. “But if you want it that way, at some point yes.”
