Colorado Rockies Game No. 97 Thread: Chris Paddack against Kyle Freeland

We are back, baby!

The Colorado Rockies are fresh from the All-Star break and start the second half of the season on the right foot, while for a three-game set that begins on Friday evening it takes place on the visiting Minnesota Twins.

The way for the Rox is Kyle Freeland (1-10, 5.44 ERA). After suffering a brutal start to the 2025 season, he seems to be somewhat back in something because he held a quality start in his last excursion. Freeland approved three or fewer runs in five of his last six starts, which is not spectacular or so, but a sign that the fan favorite colorado native turns a corner in a difficult campaign.

He just confronted the twins. That was during his spectacular 2017 season, in which he allowed three deserved runs in six innings on the way to a 7: 3 victory. At that time, however, that was and Minnesota's line -up looks very different. Freeland has to peck like a veteran to avoid damage caused by Byron Buxton's bunch.

Against Freeland, Chris Paddack (3-8, 4.95 ERA) will be, who has achieved an expiry and expiry this season. Paddack was largely very well received, but in 2025 at least six deserved runs in three different starts. The youngest of them was his last excursion before the break, a five-in-inside loss of six runs against the Chicago Cubs.

Paddacks six-pitch mix is a mashup of fastballs, slider and several break balls. We will see how the Rocky Mountains deal with such a variety of offensive weapons to give him his first loss of career against Colorado (he is 3-0 in five starts against our boys).

Manager Warren Schaeffer has put together a fun line this evening – one in which Tyler Freeman defeated the leadoff spot, Jordan Beck third and many exciting young stars. It is a little insight into a potential future stroke order for 2026 and beyond. The return of Hesquiel Tovar, back from his rehab queue in Triple-A Albuquerque, also signals this evening. Unfortunately, the rule of a “soul for a soul” remains, and Tay Estrada will take Tovar's place on the IL with a thumb.

How will this new line -up work tonight? Let us find out together.
