Vernon Viper's name Matt Cooke as head coach and general manager


Vernon, BC – The Vernon Vipers are proud to announce the attitude of Matt Cooke Next of the organization Head coach and general manager.

“I feel incredibly honored to become the next head coach and general manager of Vernon Vipers,” said Cooke. “The vipers are a team with a rich and famous story, and it is a privilege to join an organization that has meant so much for the community in Vernon -and the BCHL and Junior hockey in all of Canada. I look forward to building up part of the reconstruction of a culture of excellence in Vernon and making this organization back on the Fred Page Pupal.”

Cooke, born in Belleville, OntarioBrings an abundance of experience both and outside the ice. He fit for a 17-year-old NHL career for 1,046 games and was a member of the 2008/09 Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins. After COOKE withdrawn from professional hockey, he changed to coaching, including Three seasons behind the bank in the Minnesota High School Hockeyand finally as Head coach of Growler's Newfoundland (Echl subsidiary of Toronto Maple Leafs) in 2023–24.

“This is a special day for our organization,” said Vipers owner Tom Glen. “Matt brings enormous experience both as a player and as a trainer.

Cooke will take over immediately because the team is preparing for the upcoming BCHL season.
