Mann accused after he allegedly attacked LGBTQ+ couples outside of MGM Grand Detroit

Detroit (WXYZ)-A 26-year-old man is charged with several hate crimes after he has supposedly attacked two LGBTQ+ pairs that are waiting for his car outside of MGM Grand Detroit.

After the incident, William Wilson was charged with four cases of hate crimes in the early Sunday morning.

“We didn't go there for any problems. We were all sober. We only went there to get our car,” said Chelsi Way.

Way waited with her wife Celia Haueter and the brother of Haueter, David Supel, and his fiance for her car when two men approached them.

“Celia was like 'Why don't you just leave us alone. Let the F alone.' And then he hit her for the first time and she fell.

“He swings to the left and right – Heumacher. And I just try to keep them from being hit, and I have been hit a few times, but that is nothing compared to my sister's face,” said David Supel.

Haueter says that she doesn't remember much from that night after being thrown out.

“My physical wounds start to heal, but I have a heavy concussion,” said Haueter.

The attack has feared her to leave her home.

“I feel that I don't know what he was left out next. I hope that he has no ulterior motive. I just want nothing else to happen,” she said.

According to court files, Wilson was charged on July 16 and released in bond. We turned to his lawyer, but we are still waiting to hear back.

The public prosecutor is considering this as a hate crime because Wilson supposedly acted deliberately to harm the victims due to her perceived sex orientation.

Both women say that they will be okay, but hope that Wilson will be held accountable. They also believe that MGM should have a certain responsibility.

“We have the feeling that if the employees had recognized that there would be a problem, this would never have happened because we could have had a very different result and it could be dead,” said Way. “When security is there, I don't know what they are there for, maybe to protect MGM, but they are not there to protect people.”

MGM rejected a written declaration, but a spokesman said by phone that they worked with the police.

“I am amazed, lost, you know. As a gay man, people ask your masculinity all the time, so it's like this, I ask a lot. I am amazed at how it could happen to us,” said David Supel.

Wilson's next trial is planned for July 24th.
