Aleksandar Kovacevic called on Friday evening in the Mifel Tennis Open by Telcel Oppo in Los Cabos, where he climbed into the championship game, a striking feeling of Deja-Vu against Andrey Rubonvic.

The 26-year-old American gathered after two hours, 29 minutes at the Mexican ATP ATP 250, a granular 3-6, 6-4, 6: 4 victory over the top Rublev.

“I can't lie, but say that you can do it again once you win a player against a player,” said Kovacevic. “I didn't feel so easy to start, but then I really found my energy in the second and third sets. I was a bit lucky, but I'm proud of the way I started.

“Every match is a new challenge. I thought about how I would play against him, but you can't think too much about the past whether it is good or bad.”

Kovacevic, the fourth American finalist in Los Cabos, is 66th place in the PIF ATP Live ranking and guarantees a new career high on Monday. It could increase another 10 places to 56th place if he captures his first ATP tour trophy.

Rublev, the world No. 10, aimed to record his 250th tour level victory in hard places. He saved four breakpoints for a brave service to switch to 4: 3 in the last set, but Kovacevic found a late spark and triggered the last three games to assert themselves.

Look at extended highlights of the Los Cabos semi-finals:

Kovacevic faces a maid Lexus ATP Head2head with the third seed Denis Shapovalov, who continued his impressive debut in Los Cabos by reaching the final without dropping a set. The 26-year-old Canadian was relentlessly against Adam Walton during his 6-2 victory, which, according to Infosys, had converted all four breakpoints with which he was confronted, and all four that he had processed on the Australians' serve.

“It is what I was born and so I grew up with the games,” said Shapovalov when I was asked about his aggressive style of play. “It is important to stay aggressive and continue. It was a great week for me, I didn't know what to expect. It is always something special to play a finale at this level. It will be fun.”

With his 66-minute victory, Shapovalov Countryman Felix Auger-Aliaside (3), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (2) and Jack Draper (2) were the only men to achieve the only men this year. Shapovalov, who won the biggest title of his career at the ATP 500 in Dallas in February, chases his fourth ATP tour trophy.

The Shapovalov season 2023 was canceled in July due to a knee injury, but he returned to the back at the end of 2024 by winning his first title in Belgrade in Belgrade for five years. The former player No. 10 in the PIF ATP ranking then rose through three top -10 opponents during his Dallas triumph. With its ninth tours this week, Shapovalov achieved four places in 29th place in the live ranking.
