“The most ridiculous thing I have ever seen”: Realing Rory McIlroy let himself be declined in disbelief

As the latest introduction to one of the most exclusive clubs in sports, there is hardly that Grand Slam Champion Rory McIlroy has not seen in the golf game. Then, shortly after the half -time of his third round of his open championship on Saturday, he swung.

The 36-year-old enjoyed an excellent day before loud support in Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland and was in a place of effort when his tee on the eleventh perf.

The “Oh my god”, who followed the following blow of his wedge, was Mcilroy's reaction to his efforts, which the green did not drop, but somehow turned the world to the ball to the ball.

As through a miracle, his swing accidentally showed a second ball under his playing in the Dunluce on the left.

“Oh my goodness … it has to be a first one, isn't it?” The three-time open winner Nick Faldo called out in the Sky Sports Golf program.

“He was very lucky to miss the ferns and the wild rose bushes, but then he ends up on an old golf ball … what a story.”

McIlroy apparently saw the funny side and held the hidden treasure with an unbelieving smile, even when he saw how his actual shot went away from the green before he threw it into a nearby bush.

After the round, McIlroy said that he “honestly” did not know what had happened on the 11th.

“This is the strangest, ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Then my ball came really strange and stayed out. Yes, just so strange.”

Although a first bogey of the round followed, the five-time major winner immediately replied in a breathtaking way to re-sparkle with three birdies in four holes for a day.

A little more than 56 feet from the Par-Five 12th Cup, he knocked a perfectly weighted putet that rolled for more than 10 seconds before entering Eagle and loosening delightful scenes in the stands behind him.

“It is one of the largest Roars I've ever heard on a golf course,” he later noticed.

It was the undoubtedly-free personal highlight of a day when McIlroy, which was born about 60 miles in the small town of Holywood, kept his dream open from a fairytale house when a five-below 66 a total of eight and lower par.

He left six strokes from Leader Scottie Scheffler: a shot closer than at the beginning of Saturday, but it certainly requires an even greater performance if he is supposed to raise his second clear jug.

“He plays like Scottie. I don't think it's a surprise … he's just so solid, he doesn't make mistakes,” said Mcilroy.

“He has also turned into a really consistent putter. Therefore there seems to be no weakness. If you try to hunt such a guy like this, it's difficult to do.”

Whatever the result may be, McIlroy has banished the demons of a tearful missed cut when the major returned to Royal Portrush for the first time in 68 years.

The 29-time PGA Tour winner enjoyed the phenomenal support at the Causeway Coast all week, with chants of “Rory, Rory, Rory” rang by rain and shine even after a steady start of 70 and 69.

'Absolutely incredibly out there. The atmosphere was electric all day, ”Mcilroy told Sky Sports.

“An absolute pleasure to play before my home, my fans. I tried my best. I try my best every week, but I'm really just trying to stay inside and stay in it.”
