19 injured after the fireworks exhibition goes wrong in Germany

The German authorities say that at least 19 people were seriously injured after a fireworks exhibition at a trade fair in the western city of Düsseldorf went wrong.

Fire Squad and Emergency Services were used in the Rheink event along the Rhine River late Friday, where pictures from the scene showed fireworks that almost went on the floor along his banks.

A child was among the injured, reported the dpa news agency.

Düsseldorf Fire Services said the police examined the cause of the accident.

“Our thoughts are among those affected and their families. We wish everyone affected a quick recovery from the consequences of the accident. We deeply regret the accident,” said Peter Dietlmaier, a spokesman.

The organizers ended the fair early and decided whether the traditional fireworks should continue at the event next year, he said.

The 10-day trade fair for amusement parks, drone and fireworks shows as well as other entertainment by hundreds of employees along the left bank of the Rhine opposite the historic district of the city. The fair is organized by St. Sebastianus Rifle Club, which traces its history in 1316.
