King Lake Back Under algae clock

King Lake Back Under algae clock

Chuck Samples/Kvoe News.

An Emporia lake is back under a blue-green algae watch.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment presented the King Lake in front of the Prophet and Outreach Center of the State Emporia State for the second time this year under a harmful guard. King had King Lake in an algae watch that lasted in March and over a month.

The Melvern Outlet River Pond and Swim Pond are on the algae observation list for the second week in a row.

Algae watches mean that a harmful algae blossom is possible if not actually available. Watches are also spent when water can be insecure for both humans and animals.

During the clocks, Kdhe has several recommendations:

*Avoid areas of algae accumulation and let people/pets eat not dried algae or drink contaminated water.
*Swimming, wading, skiing and jet skiing are discouraged near visible flowers.
*Booting and fishing are safe. However, the inhalation of the spray can affect some people. Avoid direct contact with water and wash after contact with clean water.
*Clean the fish thoroughly with drinking water and only eat a fillet portion.

You can find more information about Blue Green Algae online at Kdhe.ks.gov/hab, including links to the message of algae or algae diseases and an interactive card.
