According to the neighbors of Portland, Oregon, the officials say to pull their feet because of crime – so they have built up their own solution

If you walked the Southeast Washington Street in the district of Portland in Montavilla, you would see it lined with flower beds. But things weren't always like that.

Until recently, the residents said that a number of motorhomes were parked where the flowers are now and that the homeless and criminal activities attract.

“One thing that several neighbors and I noticed that there was a meth laboratory. So they produced drugs,” said Christopher Carter-Tully to Katu News in a story published on July 10th.

The residents molested the city for help – one person informed the broadcaster that they asked for 56 weeks in a row – and the vehicles were finally removed. Then a group of neighbors came together to finally bring their street back.

An aesthetic-long solution

In order to prevent the vehicles from returning, the neighbors spent $ 3,000 out of their own money, which flowers in darns and barrels up and down on the street up and down, where the motorhomes were once parked.

“We bought it all, installed the dirt and bought all the plants,” said Joanne Benson, who lives in the neighborhood for 17 years, to Katu News. Now she says that she sleeps better at night.

She added that families also use the cycle path that runs parallel to the street.

“Nobody would want to use the cycle path for the use of leisure conditions because they were afraid,” said Carter-Tully.

Since Carter-Tully planted the flowers, you have noticed that motorhomes roll on the street on the street to go away.

“You know that the community is watching,” he said.

Whether the flower beds lift red flags with the city or not, the residents are confident that they will be left alone because the strategy seems to work.

“We actually save you money,” said Carter-Tully.

The costs for neighborhood crimes

Unaddressed crime can seriously negatively affect the neighborhoods. It could endanger people like houses and vehicles. Fires can affect entire building blocks if they get out of control. High crime rates can also make companies.

It can also have a negative impact on the property values. People don't want to move to the neighborhoods in which the crime is widespread. And if too many homeowners give up a neighborhood in a short time due to an increase in crime, this could lead to an oversupply of houses on the market and undermine real estate values.

In addition, higher crime prices could increase the house insurance premiums and the premiums for car insurance and make life more expensive for residents. For this reason, it is important to be persistent and continue to urge the city officials to tackle all crime problems in their neighborhood that they experience.

It can help take photos and document what happens in your neighborhood. Talk to your government representatives about the problem to determine whether you can ask the local officials to take measures.
