Scottish Open: Rory McIlroy played the second title when Chris Gotterup won a shock victory to Royal Portrush Spot | Book | Golf messages

Rory McIlroy was denied by an inspired Chris Gotterup in the last round in the Renaissance Club a second Genesis Scottish Open title, who lost two strokes against the American.

McIlroy was clear overnight at 11 a.m. with two consecutive birdies at four and five years after he had dropped a shot at the third case, but Gotterup – after an opening bogey – held with birdies with three, seven and eight step for Mcilroy with birdies and pushed the couple Clear Cleary Clear.

Mcilroy's title boost then remained with a distance of 10 pars in a row to close his round, while Gotterup took over the initiative in the past nine and two with further lines around 10 and 12.

A Bogey at 15 threatened a late wobbling of the world No. 158, just so that he reacted with a birdie on the next Par-five when he ended a breathtaking victory, while Mcilroy was bound with Marco Penge.

The English hopes of Penge and Matt Fitzpatrick both briefly held the shares from The Lead, but ultimately could not keep up with the charging godup, while Countryman Justin Rose carded the round of the day, with his seven under 63 under 11 and a sixth place.

Together with Gotterup, Nicolai Højgaard achieved one of the last places for the Open Championship next week at Royal Portrush with a degree of 64, which besides Fitzpatrick with 12 under fourth place.

Matthias Schmid, at six years old, took third and last place after Jake Knapp, who had a share of the lead through five holes – carded a double bait in the ninth and continued to go down the back nine in order to close with a 74 and to lose his chance.

Sepp Straka rounded off the top 10 and took seventh place at 10 under two years ago.

The Swede ended with nine under the defending champion Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler, whose putter he continued to be the defending open champion Xander Schauffele and Scottie Scheffler in his last 67-year round, which promised more.

Viktor Hovland twice the 17th to stroke Wyndham Clark with Wyndham Clark with the 11th place in the top 10, which in the last group gave a disappointing one-over 71 value in the last group.

How did the last round make itself unimaginative?

McIlroy had insignificantly set off, thrown a shot at the third with Par-Five thirds, but followed with two consecutive birdies to move among 12.

Gotterup had a similar start and started the opening hole before picking up birdies in the third and the seventh to keep up with the Masters champion.

Both men picked up further shots on the next hole and practiced ninth place to drive the turn in 33 and stay locked up together.

Fitzpatrick closed on the 10th in a shot with an Eagle three before Gotterup emptied a birdie by 12 years to take over the Solo lead, and although Fitzpatrick pulled back into one point at 13 under 13.

A set shot at 15 left him only one with three to play for a good thing, and although he pressed his tee on the Par-five 16. He appeared with four to McIlroys five to go to 15, and with two putts to win 18, he made no mistake.

Gotterup: I kept in there like a champion

Chris Gotterup, who speaks to Sky Sports:

“Astonishing. It all hits me. It's just so cool.

“I played very well this week. I knew that today I would get hard and I hung there like a champion and ended it with style.

“I felt pretty good, shocking, today I felt comfortable with the first T -shirt. I knew I was playing well this week and I felt ready for the challenge.

“That's why I practice and that's why I play against the best. It was a pleasure to be out there [McIlroy] And obviously the support he gets is amazing, but it was nice to ruin that a bit. “

McIlroy 'really happy' before portrush

“It was a great week. I am really happy with my game. Just as I played over the weekend; the shots that I hit how I checked my ball flight.

“It was a great week. The lack of the trophy, that's it.

No frustration. I am really happy with where everything is. I look forward to coming to Portrush tonight and going to the golf course tomorrow morning and devoting myself to it.

“But I have the feeling that I left everything I wanted this week.

“I have the feeling that my game got a little better every day. Everything is in a really good place.”
