The teens charged in the shooting of Shaun Brady remain in custody

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The two teenagers charged with the murder of Irish chef Shaun Brady, referred to as “KH” and “LM” in Tuesday’s trial, remain in juvenile custody.

Judge Jennifer Phillips rejected both defense attorneys’ requests to transfer the teens to Hilltop Juvenile Correctional Facility or impose house arrest, ruling that the cases remain open to the public.

For Shaun Brady’s family in Ireland, the next court hearing will determine whether future court proceedings are shown virtually.

Brady, 44, was murdered in late August during an altercation while taking out the trash at his restaurant, Brady & Fox.

Brady cooked breakfast at Irishfest, a passion of his to share his Irish culture. Erin Gabert was his girlfriend and worked with him at Irishfest.

“Shaun left a great legacy, but his legacy is not about the way he died, but the way he lived,” Gabert said.

Judge Phillips has scheduled the certification hearing in “KH’s” trial for December 4, but that date could be changed. She has scheduled the certification hearing for “LM” for December 18 at 9:30 a.m

The certification hearings will determine whether the juveniles will be tried as adults.

That recommendation will ultimately go to Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, and she would either send the case to the 16th District Court or keep it in juvenile court.

The teen’s next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m

An important note: Peters Baker’s term as Jackson County prosecutor ends Tuesday. December 31 – then she will be replaced by either Democrat Melesa Johnson or Republican Tracey Chappell.
