The Frankfurt Marathon is one of the best city runs in the world. No wonder, because the route takes the athletes past numerous sights. In addition, with a total height difference of only 27.8 meters, it invites you to hunt for records.

The start and finish are traditionally at the trade fair. It starts at 10 a.m. – and all participants who have successfully completed the 42.195 kilometers will be rewarded at the end with a finish in the Frankfurt Festival Hall.

First through the city center, then across the Main

In between lies – at least in theory – a sightseeing tour that a tourist guide could hardly think of better. First you go through the city center, past beautiful squares such as the Alte Oper. Then the field of runners moved over the Old Bridge over the Main towards Sachsenhausen.

The turning point is the highest

Via Niederrad and Schwanheim the route continues near the Main to Höchst, the westernmost point of the Frankfurt Marathon. The route then takes the athletes back to the city center via Mainzer Landstrasse – and towards the finish. By the way, all of this is mostly on wide thoroughfares and always on asphalt.

Those who support the athletes along the route can also choose from many beautiful spots. Drivers and commuters, on the other hand, have to prepare for some closures and traffic delays.

By the way: amateur athletes need an average of 3:57:56 hours to complete the Frankfurt marathon route. For elite runners, the record is 2:03:42, set by Wilson Kipsang in 2011.
