Microsoft continues to release optional updates for Windows 10 and 11 apart from the regular monthly patch day. October is no exception and brings new content with the updates KB5045594 for Windows 10 22H2 and KB5044380 for Windows 11 23H2. We show what the two patches change in the following overview.

The Windows 10 patch KB5045594 is mainly bug fixes. This solves, among other things, problems with the printer connection via USB. The update also introduces an account manager in the Windows Start menu, which allows users to more easily access related account settings.

The KB5044380 update for Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2, however, is slightly larger. The Copilot button, which has been found on keyboards in various laptops since the introduction of ARM laptops, can now be reprogrammed under the operating systems. You can now set a different quick access for the copilot button via “Settings > Personalization > Text input”.

Additionally, a new virtual keyboard button layout is introduced that resembles an Xbox controller. Finally, Microsoft lists some bug fixes for Windows 11, such as a solution to increased battery load.

The KB5045594 patch brings Windows 10 22H2 to build number 19045.5073 after installation; The KB5044380 patch, on the other hand, upgrades Windows 11 to build version 22621.4391 (22H2) or 22621.4391 (23H2). The download itself is carried out as usual using the Microsoft update function; Microsoft publishes the complete release notes in the corresponding blog post. If the download does not work in the usual way, KB5045594 and KB5044380 can also be downloaded via Microsoft Update Catalog.
