The entire Galaxy S25 series could feature the same chip, and the winner is…

TL;DR

  • Individual leaks and reports suggest that Samsung could likely use the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip across the entire Galaxy S25 series.
  • Previous leaks suggested that the company was weighing its options and offering MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and Exynos 2500 as alternatives for some phones in the lineup.
  • With the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus and S25 Ultra can offer largely the same performance.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series will soon replace the Galaxy S24 series and is considered one of the top Android flagship picks for the coming year. Previous leaks made it clear that Samsung was reportedly thinking about diversifying the chip selection for its flagship lineup, weighing its options with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 and the rumored Exynos 2500 SoC. But we’re hearing more and more about Samsung choosing a chip, and the winner appears to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for the entire Galaxy S25 series.

Leaker Ice Universe claims that the upcoming Galaxy S25 series will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and forego the Exynos 2500 and Dimensity 9400.

Leaker Chun Bhai, citing unnamed Korean media reports, reiterates that the Galaxy S25 series will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite across its lineup.

The Galaxy S25 FE should use the Exynos 2400 like the Galaxy S24. The Exynos 2500 is not expected to be included in this device or the Galaxy Z Flip 7, which is expected later in 2025.

These rumors are in line with previous rumors from Korean media that the Galaxy S25 series will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SoC, which Qualcomm has renamed Snapdragon 8 Elite. It’s not immediately clear whether the leakers are basing their leaks on the same report, as they unfortunately haven’t clarified their sources.

The takeaway from these leaks is that it increasingly looks like the Galaxy S25 series will use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite across the lineup. Since no exceptions were mentioned for regions, we can assume that the same chip will be used worldwide.

This is good news for Samsung fans as they get consistent SoC performance across the range, largely discounting the exact phone they bought within the range and the region they bought it from. Of course, variables like RAM, storage technology, and cooling will impact the end result, but the lineup will be broadly equivalent for end users.

Samsung has not made any announcements regarding this yet. The head of Samsung’s mobile division, Mr. TM Roh, appeared at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit but did not provide any specific insights into the company’s upcoming devices. We’ll have to wait for the company to officially confirm details about the Galaxy S25 series, so until then, take everything with a grain of salt.
