New Bedford police arrest second man in Blue Meadows shooting

NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) – A second person has been arrested in connection with the shooting at the Blue Meadows apartment complex last month in which an AR-15 weapon was allegedly used – and the police chief said more arrests are forthcoming.

Meanwhile, the weapon used in the shooting remains on the street, but Police Chief Paul Oliveira previously said recovering the weapon was a “top priority.”

New Bedford Police announced this morning that investigators arrested 20-year-old Daziere Colton on October 17 after spotting him at the intersection of Kempton and Chancery streets. Detective Alan Kubik was the arresting detective.

According to police, Colton is accused of various crimes, including assault by discharge of a firearm, receiving a stolen vehicle and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.

On September 24, an AR-15 rifle was reportedly used in the shooting at the condominium, resulting in two people being shot.

WBSM’s Chris McCarthy confirmed to sources that an AR-15 rifle was used in the shooting and more than 30 rounds were fired.

The resulting investigation led to the arrest of 20-year-old Tyrell Pratt of New Bedford on October 1st. Pratt allegedly discarded a handgun as he attempted to flee police before he was taken into custody and the firearm was recovered.

“We have made this brazen shooting a top priority and I am proud to announce that two arrests have been made,” said Police Chief Paul Oliveira. “I am also confident that there will be further arrests.”

Oliveira said on McCarthy’s Oct. 8 show that recovering the AR-15-style weapon was a “top priority.”
