Dorian Thompson-Robinson will not start in Week 8

Dorian Thompson-Robinson will not start in Week 8

Thompson-Robinson (finger) will not be in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Ravens, with Jameis Winston instead on track to play in Week 8 in place of the injured Deshaun Watson (Achilles), according to The Cleveland Plain Dealer’s Mary Kay Cabot to step in in the middle reports.

After finishing third on the depth chart behind Watson and Winston to start the season, Thompson-Robinson was active as the No. 2 quarterback in last Sunday’s loss to the Bengals, while Winston was inactive as the No. 3 emergency option. When Watson suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear at the end of the second quarter, Thompson-Robinson was called into action and completed 11 of 24 passes for 82 yards and two interceptions while rushing three times for 44 yards before being retired in the retired in the fourth quarter with a tendon injury in the middle finger of his throwing hand. Winston took the field for the Browns’ final drive and will now take the starting spot in Week 8, but Thompson-Robinson could be a candidate to replace him once he fully recovers from the injury. The finger problem does not require surgery and does not pose a major problem for Thompson-Robinson, who could still be available as a backup on Sunday. The Browns signed Bailey Zappe on Tuesday, giving the team another option to back up Winston if Thompson-Robinson is not healthy enough for that.
