DoorDash driver arrested and released after firing gun during delivery

OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) officers arrested a 21-year-old DoorDash driver last week after he fired a gun from his vehicle during a delivery.

MCSO deputies said they arrested Michael Timothy Breuer of Belleview on Friday on two weapons charges.

According to the affidavit, around 2 p.m. on Oct. 18, officers received a call that a shot had been fired from a dark-colored Saturn SUV driving along Southeast 58th Avenue near Silver Springs Shores.

Officers arrived at SRM Concrete near the scene and asked employees what they had seen. Employees told officers that no one was injured, but reported hearing between three and seven shots.

The person who called police told them that the car that fired the shots was traveling south on Southeast 58th Avenue and officers were able to identify the vehicle by its tag.

On the plate, the vehicle was registered to Mellissa Smith, the suspect’s mother. Ms. Smith told officers that her son was using her car to run errands and that he would be back shortly. Police attempted to arrest Breuer at the hardware store he was at but were unable to find him. They met him again at his mother’s house.

Before Breuer got home, he told officers that he knew nothing about the allegations and that he had committed DoorDashing.

Officers searched the vehicle and found a .22 caliber cartridge on the backseat floorboard behind the driver’s seat.

Breuer was read his Miranda rights and told officers that he had not fired a weapon from his car and that he only owned one weapon, a 20-gauge shotgun for decorative display.

When asked about the shell casing, Breuer said he had a friend with a .22 long rifle and they went into the woods from time to time to shoot it, so that must have been it.

Breuer said his friend, with whom he was DoorDashing at the time, also did not fire a weapon.

Deputies questioned Breuer whether if they obtained security surveillance footage from nearby businesses at the time of the event, they would see him at the site of the car shooting. According to deputies, Breuer lowered his head and said yes.

Breuer told officers he became angry at the intersection of Southeast 92nd Loop and Southeast 58th Avenue. He said a truck cut him off in traffic and in response he used his .22 caliber handgun and fired about one to two shots from the car in anger.

Breuer said when he got home, he told his mother to put the gun in his safe, but didn’t tell her why. Officers recovered the weapon from the house.

He was taken to the Marion County Jail on Friday and released the next day on $100,000 bail. Breuer’s next court date is November 19th at 9 a.m

Breuer was charged with petty theft last year.
