“Knows what the consequences are” – WTA legend’s silence on Iga Swiatek’s situation is analyzed while Tennis Bigwig drops astonishing justifications

Iga Swiatek has been in the glaring spotlight of late, and not just because of the career highlights that led her to world No. 1. The Polish sensation went through a turbulent period, especially given the coaching challenges she faced after parting ways with her former coach, Tomasz Wiktorowski. Of course, this caused a huge stir among fans, media and experts. But despite all this attention, there was a surprising silence – the former world number 2 Agnieszka Radwanska. Despite being one of Poland’s most prominent tennis figures, Radwanska remained remarkably quiet about Swiatek’s journey and tennis commentator Marek Furjan seems to have a reason for it.

Tennis bigwig and BreakPoint podcast co-host Furjan had an interaction with Lukasz Kadziewicz Przeglad Sportowythe only Polish sports newspaper. During the publication’s Onet Rano broadcast, Furjan was asked about the likely reason for Radwanska’s years of silence about Swiatek and whether it was due to some sort of rift between them. Furjan, who is known for his witty nature, once again had an interesting answer.

In the interview he said: “I think Agnieszka Radwanska is hesitant to talk about Iga not because she has bad blood against her, but because she knows what the consequences are.” He further emphasized that media coverage of such an incident has reached its peak. “Radwanska about Świątek”, that is immediately [the page’s headline — editor’s note].” He also received some sort of endorsement from host Kadziewicz, who said: “It would probably be number one for “Przegląd Sportowy” that day.

Furjan quickly responded to this and emphasized: “The negative context is always drawn,” in such cases. Remember, Swiatek witnessed a series of challenges and has not been able to return to the court since the US Open. The coverage of her challenges, particularly in the Polish media, was immense, ranging from her separation from her former coach to her partnership with new coach Wim Fissette. While many experts shared their views on this, 20-time title winner Radwanska chose the other path and remained silent. But there is another interesting aspect.

While the former Polish sensation hasn’t said a word about Iga Swiatek recently and has been hesitant to speak about her on previous occasions, her husband Dawid Celt became an important member of Swiatek’s team when there was no full-time coach. He was also previously considered Swiatek’s mentor for the WTA Finals. Although Radwanska hasn’t been too vocal about Swiatek, there have been a few instances in the past where the former star expressed her feelings for the player.

In an interview with Rolandgarros.com in 2023, Radwanska praised the star player’s dominance on the court. “I think she shows a level that you can’t really see in any other playersaid Radwanska. “I don’t know how the girls have to play against them to even come close to winning a set. “At the moment I don’t see any player playing at the same level as Iga.” she added. Interestingly, she even made some suggestions to the player.

When Agnieszka Radwanska expressed her urgent concern for Iga Swiatek

While Iga Swiatek has enjoyed tremendous success on the WTA Tour, her performance on the pitch continued to be a concern for the player. This year too, she was eliminated from Wimbledon itself in the third round as her woes came to light again. Former Wimbledon finalist Agnieszka Radwanska weighed in, claiming that while the Pole has the potential to win Wimbledon, there are areas of her game that she needs to improve first.

In an interview during the Wimbledon Legends Media Day in July this year, Radwanska said: “I think there are a lot of things she needs to work on while playing on grass. I think she needs a little more experience on grass and understands a few things on this surface a little better.” She further expressed her belief in the player and shared: “I believe she will win Wimbledon one day.”

For now, it would be interesting to see if Radwanska has any more advice for Iga Swiatek as he begins a new partnership and prepares for some important tournaments of the year.
