Colorado police capture kangaroo during high-speed chase

DURANGO, Colo. (KKTV) – Officers in a Colorado town were tasked with something they likely never received training for: fighting a kangaroo.

On Wednesday, the Durango Police Department released video of officers tracking the animal, which you wouldn’t expect to see hopping down a road in the Centennial State. The department adds that Officers Preskorn, Walters and Hamer were involved in a “high-speed chase” with an “unexpected suspect.”

Watch the video at the top of this article. In the video, an officer can be heard laughing as he doesn’t know how to catch the rogue red kangaroo. The timestamp in the video shows September 18th.

“Don’t worry, the leggy friend has been released to his owner…and we are seriously considering cardio,” police posted on social media. “Who would have thought that kangaroo wrestling was part of the job? No roos were harmed during the filming of this video.”

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, it is legal to own a red kangaroo in Colorado. Click here to learn more from CPW about animals you can keep in Colorado.
