The Spokane Fire Department is proud to announce that the Washington State Fire Marshals Association has named Deputy Chief Lance Dahl the 2024 Washington State Fire Marshal of the Year. This prestigious association, comprised of 819 members from 137 fire departments, presents this annual award to an individual who demonstrates exceptional leadership, mentorship and adaptability in addressing the evolving challenges of fire safety and risk reduction in the community.

Chief Dahl’s commitment to public safety has been a cornerstone of our community and his leadership is now recognized nationally. Under his leadership, our Prevention, Community Risk, Plan Review and Investigations teams work diligently to create a safer environment for everyone. Its proactive approach to wildfire risk reduction, including treating fuels on both city and private properties, serves as a model for other cities.

Chief Dahl’s efforts not only protect residents and businesses, but also improve the safety of our first responders during emergency operations. We are honored to have him on our team as he works tirelessly to make our community safer for everyone to live, work and have fun.
