Syrian-Russian alliance forces are significantly increasing their attacks, targeting civilian facilities and areas in northwestern Syria

I. SYRIAN-RUSSIAN ALLIANCE FORCES INCREASE THEIR ATTACKS IN NORTHWEST SYRIA, KILLING 13 CIVILIANS, INCLUDING FIVE CHILDREN

Between October 14 and 16, 2024, northwestern Syria was the target of increased bombardment and attacks by Syrian-Russian alliance forces. During this period, the Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented multiple and daily airstrikes by Russian forces using fixed-wing aircraft and the use of high-explosive missiles on areas in Idlib Governorate,2 northern rural Latakia and western rural Hama. These attacks focused on civilian and forested areas, as well as areas near dividing lines and camps housing internally displaced persons. They were carried out without prior warning and posed a terrible, deadly threat to the lives and property of civilians.

At the same time, Syrian regime forces carried out ground attacks using artillery weapons and explosive-laden unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), also known as kamikaze drones, targeting civilian areas in rural Idlib and western rural Aleppo. In total, SNHR documented the killing of 13 civilians, including five children, and the injury of 42 others to varying degrees in this latest offensive, which also resulted in widespread destruction of homes and civilian facilities.
