This ultra-minimalist sports watch does something no other watch can

Pound for pound, MING is perhaps the most innovative watch brand today.

Founded in 2017, MING has such a small team that many still refer to it as a micro-brand. Nevertheless, with its unconventional thinking and technical prowess, MING has proven itself to be a modern watchmaking force.

Last year, the brand set a new record as the lightest mechanical watch of all time with the LW.01. Earlier this year, the brand launched a diving watch with a completely new type of bezel and a chronograph whose dial was created using a brand new laser fusion process.

Many of MING’s innovations are reserved for its high-end models, but today the brand has launched its latest entry-level model – the MING 37.02 Minamilist – and it features perhaps the brand’s most exciting invention yet.

White night

Any sports watch worth its salt has luminous material. Whether it’s Swiss-made Super-LumiNova or a proprietary formula like Seiko’s Lumibrite, this luminous material often appears white in the light, but when the light goes out it glows a different hue. Typically, white bulbs glow either green or blue – it never stays white. Well, not yet anyway.

The dial of the 37.02 Minimalist marks the debut of MING’s new proprietary illuminant Polar White, which the brand describes as “one of the very few, if not the only” illuminant formulation that glows white. MING always seems hesitant to congratulate himself on his successes, but I know I have I have never seen white glowing lights anywhere else.
