According to the department, two Phoenix police officers were injured in a struggle with the suspect before shooting and killing him

Two Phoenix police officers were injured in a physical altercation with a suspect who was ultimately shot Sunday evening.

The Oct. 20 incident occurred near 37th Avenue and Glendale Avenue around 8:15 p.m. Crime tape surrounded the Dollar Tree as investigators entered and exited the store to collect evidence.

Phoenix Police Sgt. According to Phil Krynsky, officers responded to reports of a man armed with a knife trespassing into the store. When they got there, an employee showed officers where the man was, at which point he allegedly ran to the store’s storage area and jumped on a cooler.

He then jumped down and a fight broke out between the suspect and two officers. The suspect is said to have grabbed one of the officer’s stun guns and pointed it at one of the officers. That’s when the Shoot broke out.

The officers were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries they sustained from the fight, Sgt. Krynsky said. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as 31-year-old Essex Jackson.
