Day 3 of searching and excavating the West Houston home for a person who may have disappeared years ago

HOUSTON – Day 3 of digging and searching for Houston Police and Texas EquuSearch at a home and surrounding property in west Houston.

Their teams are working on a missing person investigation that led them to the property in the 1700 block of Elmview Drive.

The property owner told KPRC 2 the house has been vacant for years and she gave police permission to search the property and do what was necessary, but would not provide further details.

According to HPD, the person was recently reported missing but may have been missing for 10 years.

KPRC 2’s cameras captured heavy machinery appearing in the backyard of the vacant home at sunset Tuesday night, and on Wednesday search crews could be seen digging, working through the dirt and searching a wooded area behind the home.

EquuSearch volunteers then helped police dig and rummage through the piles of dirt. At one point, the volunteers appeared to place some of their finds in a black plastic bag before dragging them out of sight.

A neighbor told KPRC 2 she hasn’t seen anyone in the house in at least eight years. Property records show it has had the same owner since at least 2019.

EquuSearch volunteers also spent several minutes inside the home, which has a torn roof and a fenced-in driveway.

Information about the missing person is currently only available to a limited extent.
