Volleyball completes home schedule against CSI, NIC

OPENING SERVICE: The Snow College volleyball team will complete its home opener this weekend against the College of Southern Idaho and North Idaho College. The Badgers face the Golden Eagles on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Cardinals on Saturday at noon. Both games will be played at the Horne Activity Center in Ephraim, Utah.

The Badgers are currently in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a record of 3-3. The Badgers trail No. 5 Utah State University Eastern and No. 11 Salt Lake Community College.

The Badgers suffered a 3-0 loss to USUE. Snow College has lost both games against the Eagles this season.

KNOW YOUR ENEMY: The Badgers are 8-25 historically against the Golden Eagles and have lost their last four games. Snow College lost the first game of the regular season to CSI 3-2 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The Golden Eagles are 3-4 in conference play this season after splitting games last weekend. CSI lost 3-1 to SLCC and defeated Colorado Northwestern Community College 3-0.

CSI is currently tied with NIC for fourth place in the SWAC standings. Both teams have three games remaining in the regular season.

Following Friday’s game, the Badgers host the Cardinals. Snow College is 5-9 historically against NIC, extending its three-game winning streak dating back to 2016. The Cardinals rejoined the SWAC this season and were defeated by the Badgers 3-0 in their first game of the season.

The Cardinals are 3-4 this season after defeating CNCC 3-0 and losing 3-0 to SLCC last weekend. The Cardinals will travel to USUE on Friday before visiting the Badgers in Ephraim.

LAST TIME: The Snow College volleyball team lost its match against Utah State University Eastern 3-0 last Wednesday. The Badgers lost both games to the Eagles this season, losing the first game 3-1.

The Badgers were coming off a split weekend with a 3-2 loss to the College of Southern Idaho and a 3-0 win over North Idaho College.

The Badgers are currently in third place in the Scenic West Athletic Conference with a record of 3-3. Snow College trails No. 7 USUE (6-0) and No. 11 Salt Lake Community College 5-2).

Snow College got off to a good start in the first set, taking a 5-0 lead early in the game. The Badgers maintained the lead for most of the first set and had a 23-19 lead.

The Eagles then scored a late four-point run to tie the game at 23 points. The next four points were then split between the two teams to end the game at 25 points. USUE was able to win the last two points and win the first set 27-25.

The second set got off to a rocky start as the Eagles started the set with a seven-point score, forcing an early Badger timeout. The Badgers were eventually able to cut the lead to 11-7 in favor of USUE. The Eagles kept the Badgers at bay for the rest of the game and won 25-17.

The third set remained close, the momentum went back and forth and the Badgers had a 12-11 lead at the halfway point of the period. The Eagles then went on a five-point run to take a 16-12 lead.

The Badgers stayed within four points until the Eagles hit a four-point shot to take a 23-15 lead and push the Badgers out of reach. USUE ultimately won the third set 25-16 and won the game 3-0.

NEXT: The Badgers travel to CNCC on Friday, November 1st. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m. in Rangely, Colorado. The Badgers then conclude the regular season on Saturday, November 2nd at SLCC. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Taylorsville, Utah.
