The Cleveland State volleyball team will open a five-game roadwing this week, traveling to RMU for a two-game series on Thursday, October 24th and Friday, October 25th.

The Vikings are 14-6 on the year…Cleveland State will look to win its fourth and fifth games in the last six contests…The Vikings are tied for fourth place in the #HLVB standings after the first four weeks of league play .

In search of the colonial masters

This weekend’s games will be the 39th and 40th meetings between Cleveland State and RMU, with Cleveland State holding a 36-2 edge in the all-time series. Last season, the two teams split the series, while the Vikings had won ten straight times before the 2023 season.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Thursday’s game at RMU will be the first of five straight road games for the Vikings and will mark the longest roadwing of the season for Cleveland State. So far this year, the Vikings are 7-3 in away games.

WALKER moves to second place on the career list

He was a senior libero after combining for 22 digs against Purdue Fort Wayne last weekend Emma Walker moved to second place on the CSU Career Digs list, finishing the weekend with a total of 1,496 digs. Walker, who is just four digs away from reaching the 1,500-dig plateau, would become only the second Viking ever to reach the milestone. With at least nine games left this year, Walker needs 50 more digs to become the program’s all-time digs leader.

…WALKER IS ONE OF THE #HLVB PLAYERS

For the season, Emma Walker is averaging 5.04 digs per set, ranking third among #HLVB players as he is one of only four players to average 5.00+ digs per set. Walker has totaled 373 digs this year, including eight 20-dig appearances. Earlier this year, Walker recorded 32 duels against Green Bay, a mark that ranks fourth among league players this season.

VIKINGS ON THE BLOCK

Entering Week 5 of #HLVB play, Cleveland State leads the league with an average of 2.30 blocks per set as a team after posting double-digit team blocks last time out against Purdue Fort Wayne. So far this season, the Vikings have totaled 170.0 blocks, including eight double-digit team block performances. Individually, Allana Appleby (1.06) ranks second among #HLVB players JeriLynn Koehler (0.93) ranks fifth.

TORRES LEADS THE VIKING INJURY
Liberty Torres He leads the Viking offense this weekend with an average of 3.82 kills per set and ranks third among league players with 283 total kills on the year. Last time out, Torres finished with 17 kills against Purdue Fort Wayne, earning her 16th double-digit kill match of the season. Entering the weekend, Torres is close to 850 career kills and is currently at 842 total kills.

WEEKLY #HLVB HONORS

So far this year, the Vikings have been honored three times by the Horizon League, with Liberty Torres And Emma Walker He received three Player of the Week awards. Torres (9/9 and 16/9) is one of two multiple honorees this year, while Walker received the award on September 23.

HOKIE INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS

Earlier this season, Cleveland State went 3-0 at the Hokie Invitational and secured the preseason title with wins over UNCG, Virginia Tech and Norfolk State. This was the only preseason title of the year for the Vikings, while it was the second straight season that Cleveland State won at least one preseason title.

Chuck Voss is in his 25th season at the helm of the Vikings and holds an overall record of 424-299 (.586) at Cleveland State. Last season, Voss recorded the 400th win of his head coaching career with a 3-0 decision at IUPUI. Under Voss, the Vikings have posted 18 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight seasons from 2009 to 2018. Cleveland State has surpassed 20 wins eight times since Voss took over the program and won the Horizon League five times under his leadership. Won tournament title.
