The day this year when you have the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights in Wales

The Northern Lights have lit up the skies over Wales several times this year. But if you didn’t manage to catch them, maybe you still have a chance because it’s not over yet.

Independent Cottages analyzed 30 years of publicly available geomagnetic data to find out which days of the year are most likely to spot the Aurora Borealis. The best places in the country to observe the phenomenon are national parks. And with minimal light pollution and remote locations, there’s no better place to see the lights in all their glory in ideal weather conditions. The best dates and locations in Wales to spot the lights this year are:

  • Bannau Brycheiniog: November 7th

  • Eryri: November 7th

  • Pembrokeshire Coast: November 7th

In recent months many people in Wales have been treated to sightings across Wales, with the most recent sightings reported on October 10 in Brecon, Swansea, Caerphilly county and elsewhere. Due to increased solar activity and low cloud cover in parts, conditions were poorly suited for the natural phenomenon.
