Police say Stepfather is killed in a shooting in northwest Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A 22-year-old fatally shot his stepfather in northwest Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

The shooting happened Tuesday around 9:06 p.m. Police said they responded to a shooting in the 10100 block of Royal Mint Avenue. This is close to Elkhorn and Hualapai.

When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds in a residence. Medical care arrived and transported him to UMC Hospital, where he died.

Homicide detectives learned that the victim had an argument with his 22-year-old stepson.

Police said Alexander Renteria shot his stepfather during the altercation. He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder.

The identity of the victim and the cause and manner of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
