Suspect charged in South Peoria drive-by shooting

PEORIA (25News Now) – The Peoria County District Attorney’s Office is crediting Flock license plate readers and surveillance cameras with helping police catch an 18-year-old man charged in a drive-by shooting Monday.

Daemion Moore, of Peoria, is charged with aggravated assault, a Class X felony, for a shooting that occurred around 11 a.m. Monday in the 2900 block of West Wiswall Street.

According to a statement from the district attorney’s office, a man was shot in the foot after a Shot Spotter alert indicated 14 shots had been fired there.

The victim reportedly told investigators that he was waiting outside his home for a friend when two men in a gray vehicle shot him.

Prosecutors said flock license plate readers and surveillance cameras tracked the vehicle and helped identify Moore as the owner of the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

According to authorities, the bullet casings found inside the vehicle also matched the bullet casings recovered from the crime scene.

On Wednesday, Peoria County Judge Mark Gilles ordered Moore to remain in jail ahead of his trial.

About 10 minutes before the shooting, there was a separate report of a 10-gun shot spotter alarm in the 2000 block of South Griswold Street. Three men suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. There were no arrests in this incident.
