Babolat and Dominic Thiem: A decade of partnership

Thiem is retiring from tennis

Since 2015, Austrian tennis champion Dominic Thiem has wielded Babolat rackets with finesse and power. When he said goodbye to professional tennis at the ATP 500 in Vienna – a tournament he won victoriously in 2019 – the journey reflects a monumental career highlighted by his rise to world No. 3 in 2020 and his triumph at the US Open. With Babolat’s Pure Strike racket and RPM Power strings as constant companions, Thiem has been a notable ambassador for the brand, which means a successful collaboration.

The word “elegance” aptly sums up Dominic Thiem’s presence on the pitch. The Austrian, known for his technical ability and exemplary sportsmanship, bids farewell to his 15-year ATP Tour career in Vienna after spending ten remarkable seasons partnering Babolat.

Dominic officially joined the Babolat family in 2015 and carries the Pure Strike – a racket designed for precise control and ideal for aggressive players. In his debut season he won ATP 250 titles in Nice, Umag and Gstaad, demonstrating the immediate impact of this partnership. But Thiem’s connection to Babolat predates this era and began at the 2013 Australian Open. Jean-Christophe Verborg, head of competition at Babolat, says: “Although we normally sign up-and-coming talent early, working with Dominic was non-negotiable for us. Because of our commitment, we visited him several times – from Vienna to Tenerife – and were convinced that the Pure Strike racket was his perfect partner. We knew he would be an excellent representation of our ‘control’ segment.”

Throughout his career, Dominic has sought innovation, collaborating on the RPM Power strings and further developing the Pure Strike racket to optimize his game. This powerful partnership thrives beyond the courtroom; as Eric Babolat notes, “We share core values with Dominic – his tenacious spirit, his exemplary sportsmanship and his environmental awareness. Over the last decade, our collective efforts have refined his equipment, and I am immensely proud of the strong bond we have forged.”
