LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Another day of record-breaking heat on Wednesday.

As of 4 p.m. we have officially reached today’s record high of 91°. The previous record was set in 2003.

As of 5 p.m., the airport is unofficially reporting 92°. We can confirm it after 6pm, but for now it looks like we’ll break the previous record.

Mild Wednesday evening

Temperatures will remain mild on Wednesday night. It will be low to mid 50s for most as southerly winds increase and humidity is low.

Temperatures should be about 10° above normal, with some staying near average, in the 40s, near the Texas/New Mexico state line.

You guessed it! Further potential for record breaking/breaking heat is expected Thursday afternoon. Unusually warm temperatures will again be in the upper 80s and lower 90s across the area.

It will also be windy on Thursday afternoon. Sustained wind speeds of around 15 to 25 mph are expected, with gusts up to 50/40 mph in some locations.

There is also the potential for increased fire danger in areas where fuels (vegetation) are driest. However, with a slightly wetter air mass moving, these fire weather conditions are expected to remain limited.

A cold front late Thursday/early Friday will drop high temperatures to the mid to upper 70s on Friday and Saturday. Things will get hot again on Sunday.
