NYPD is investigating after dashcam video of a crash on the Belt Parkway shows suspected insurance fraudsters backing into a car

QUEENS (WABC) – The NYPD is investigating an apparent staged accident on the Belt Parkway in Queens.

A driver posted a dashcam video of the Oct. 16 accident that went viral on Tiktok.

The video shows a car cutting her off and then as she slams on the brakes to avoid an accident, the car backs into her car on the highway.

Asphia Natasha, the driver, said the accident caused more than $8,000 in damages.

After the accident, the back seat passengers can be seen trying to cover the rear window while the driver climbs into the passenger seat before getting out of the car and pretending to be injured.

When they noticed the dashboard camera on the vehicle, Natasha said they quickly drove away.

“They hurried to leave. They said we have to go. We have to pick up our baby. And when I turned around to check on the car, they just got in their car and left,” Natasha said.

Police said the Fraudulent Collision Investigation Unit is investigating the accident.
