Sheboygan Falls Asst. Fire chief in court for child sexual assault

SHEBOYGAN, Wisc. — Sheboygan Falls Deputy Fire Chief John Albright, who is accused of sexual contact with a minor, had his first day in court Wednesday.

He has been in the Sheboygan County Jail since mid-September, when he was charged with second-degree sexual assault of a child.

According to a criminal complaint, Albright sexually assaulted a teenager at his home in 2008 or 2009 after a party.

Before Judge Rebecca Persick, Albright and his attorney Brett Kaehne pleaded not guilty and waived the preliminary hearing.
Kaehne requested some changes to Albright’s current conditions, including a reduction in bail and the opportunity to have contact with his child.

Albright is currently not allowed to have contact with children.

“In terms of his ties to the community, they are significant,” Kaehne noted. “His previous employment…he was with the same company in our community for over 20 years and had been a volunteer firefighter since he was 18.”

Prosecutor Rosario Perez-Guerra rejected these requests.

“This is one of the most serious acts that a human being can commit against another person, a vulnerable person in the community,” she said. “I would simply ask the court to take this into account and deny the defense’s request.”

Judge Persick ruled that bail would remain high but would be reduced to $50,000 from the original $150,000.

Additionally, Albright is only allowed indirect contact with his child through text messages, calls and social media.
